Help and Hope for
Individuals, Couples,
Families, Children & Adolescents
If you want help to achieve your
optimum functioning, we will work with you as an individual, as a couple, or a
family. Your optimum psychological and spiritual functioning is
something that you can realize within your history and current life situation.
Individual Counseling
Individual counseling, you
and your counselor work on personal issues and problems that trouble you.
Individual counseling work can take a few sessions or several months, depending
on the difficulty of the problems and issues you are dealing with. Your
counselor will discuss length of treatment with you during your first session.
Couples Counseling
The Center offers counseling to couples who are involved in
committed relationships. In couples counseling, the counselor focuses on the
relationship: the ways the two of you communicate; how your families-of-origin
contribute strengths as well as problems to your relationship; issues of
intimacy, finances, decision-making; conflict management.
Couples Inventories are a resource you as a couple may utilize to assist you and your counselor to focus objectively on critical relationship strengths as well as on areas where growth in your relationship would be beneficial. Your counselor can provide information about taking the inventory.
Couples Workshops are another resource for couples. In the basic Couples Workshop, you and your partner join with other couples to explore communication skills, conflict resolution, values, intimacy issues, financial concerns, and many other topics. You can combine a Couples Workshop with a Couples Inventory that includes three sessions with a counselor to explore your strengths and growth challenges in greater depth. Since both persons in a relationship bring their personal histories as well as individual differences to the relationship, your counselor may recommend individual counseling to work on personal issues that contribute to relationship problems and difficulties.
Family Counseling
Family counseling involves
all the members of the family: father, mother, and children. In family
counseling, the counselor maintains an equal distance from individual persons in
the family and focuses on the ways the family members interact; the stated as
well as the unstated "rules" about how the family operates; and the various
roles that members take in the family.
Children and Adolescents are not adults; they feel deeply; they have troubles, but also abilities; and their brains are actually different from adult brains. Adolescents experience major changes as they undergo transformation from children to young adults. Programs and counselors at Samaritan Counseling Center can help children and adolescents, and their families, negotiate the challenges and struggles of childhood and adolescence. There is much that parents, educators, professionals, law enforcement personnel, and concerned citizens can do to make our youth safer and less at risk.
Psychological
and Neurological Testing
Psychological and
neurological testing are useful in many ways: helping establish an accurate
diagnosis that informs counseling; identifying special abilities; discerning
vocational interests and aptitudes; diagnosing neurological conditions.
